As Florida prepares for a direct impact from Category 4 Hurricane Irma, a Florida Sheriff's Office is warning its residents to not fire guns toward the hurricane.
The Pasco County Sheriff's Office tweeted on Saturday that shooting at the hurricane "won't make it turn around and it will have very dangerous side effects."
The tweet was in response to a Facebook event that encouraged Floridians to shoot Irma. Nearly 80,000 people have agreed to participate, according to the event page.
It does appear, however, that the Facebook page was created as a joke as there have been no reports on anyone actually firing a gun toward the hurricane.
Pasco County is located along Florida's gulf coast, about 25 miles north of Tampa.
