NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Snow chances return to the forecast for the start of February, leading to a Storm 5 Alert. Several school districts have closed for the day.
Timing: MIDNIGHT SUNDAY - NOON MONDAY
Threats/Impacts: Dusting of snow possible in the Metro (especially on grassy and elevated surfaces), and around 1 inch possible in the Plateau.
A cold front swept through the Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky around lunchtime Sunday, causing temps to fall throughout the afternoon and into the evening.
Moisture of the backside of this system caused rain chances Sunday night. As the cold air catches up to the moisture we will see rain changing over to snow across the NewsChannel 5 viewing area.
It will take the surfaces some time to cool enough to support accumulation, so a dusting is what appears likely in the Metro area -- especially on grassy and elevated surfaces. As you go higher in elevation to the Plateau, accumulation around one inch appears likely.
You'll also want to be careful on any secondary/back roads. This could impact the Monday morning commute, which is why we are calling for a Storm 5 Alert until noon Monday.
