NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Get ready for another big weekend closure that will close the interstate in downtown Nashville.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, the Tennessee Department of Transportation will shut down Interstate 24 from I-65 to I-40 for bridge work. This will impact anyone going to or from East Nashville or who travels along the East Bank of the Cumberland River.

Drivers can use the West Loop to get around the area without losing too much time, but expect additional congestion as thousands of drivers take the same detour.

The good news is several area roads will remain open, including Shelby Avenue, Spring Street, Woodland Street and Main Street. The I-24 eastbound on-ramp at Shelby Avenue will remain open. The I-24 Westbound ramp from Spring Street will also remain open. You can use it to head north toward I-65.

This is the second weekend for this closure. The first was back during the Titans’ kickoff party when fans had to maneuver the city to get to Nissan Stadium. Folks will have to do the same this weekend for the St. Jude Walk/Run.

The interstate will re-open by 5 a.m. Monday.
