Two crashes have been reported on Interstate 24, and one allegedly involved a diesel spill that has backed up traffic.

One wreck happened around 11:38 a.m. Thursday near Exit 57 for Haywood Lane in the westbound lanes of the interstate. The crash blocked the left lanes to both east and westbound traffic.

Those with the Tennessee Department of Transportation said the roadway would be cleared in that area by 4 p.m.

Another wreck had been reported just before that around 11:13 a.m. Thursday in the westbound lanes of the interstate near mile marker 55 and Harding Place. The right lane was blocked to westbound traffic in that area. Eastbound drivers were not affected.

Crews said that crash was cleared by 1 p.m.

Details on the crashes had not been released.

The spill happened near Harding Place, and authorities said it had spread at least a fifth of a mile.

According to reports, a truck driver was hauling a heavy object when it shifted while taking an exit ramp turn. That's when the load went off the truck and smashed through a barrier. That caused one of the fuel tanks to possibly be destroyed causing the spill.
