Monsoon season continues across the Desert Southwest.
It's the time of year when that region receives most of its annual rainfall.
In addition to getting all of their rain at once, there are other factors at play resulting in the flooding that's so common this time of year.

Drainage isn't the best in the desert, and since the ground is hard and dry, a lot of the rain runs off.
A lot of river and creek beds run dry most of the year, making them prone to flash flooding, which means when it floods — it floods fast.
