NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Senior Jordan Bowden and Junior John Fulkerson led Tennessee with 17 points each as the Volunteers withstood a late rally to defeat Vanderbilt 65-61,
Tennessee (15-11, 7-6) led by 13 points with less than three minutes to play, but Vanderbilt (9-17, 1-12) cut the lead to just two after back-to-back Saben Lee three-pointers. Lee had 18 points for the Commodores.
Bowden stepped up to the line and hit two free throws with less than 10 seconds remaining to secure the win for Tennessee.
Fulkerson score 14 of his 17 points in the 2nd half. He also led Tennessee with seven rebounds.
Jordan Wright paced the Commodores with 23 points.
The Volunteers have now swept Vanderbilt on the hardwood for the past three seasons.
Tennessee travels to Auburn Saturday for a crucial game against the Tigers as the Vols work on their NCAA Tournament at-large profile.
Vanderbilt will look to pick up their second SEC win of the year as they face Georgia next in a match-up of the bottom two teams in the conference.
