Tennessee State quarterback O'Shay Ackerman-Carter has asked for a release from his scholarship and plans to transfer, the school confirmed Monday.

Ackerman-Carter, a redshirt sophomore, started the majority of the past two seasons for the Tigers before tearing his ACL and MCL in a game against Bethune-Cookman. This offseason, TSU signed highly-touted Florida transfer Treon Harris to come in and compete with Ackerman-Carter.

Ackerman-Carter threw for 1,279 yards and 11 touchdowns in his TSU career and was named to the OVC's All-Newcomer Team in 2015. He passed for five touchdowns in the first three games of last season before getting injured.

No word yet on where he plans to transfer. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
