MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WTVF) — Our Curtain Call series honoring those special athletes and teams that had their seasons disrupted, and in many cases ended, due to the spread of COVID-19 continues with Mount Juliet softball player Alyssa Costley.
Costley is plenty worthy of recognition on the field. The senior pitcher is a three-time All-District and All-District tournament selection. She earned tournament MVP honors as a freshman and a junior.
But when her senior season got stopped prematurely, Costley reached out the opponents she'd so often struck out from her prominent place in the Mt. Juliet pitcher’s circle all these years.
Costley used her creative talents to turn the heartbreaking moment into something creative. She put together a music video on the app Tik Tok. The video shows Costley tossing a softball off camera to a senior from another rival school in Tennessee’s District 9-AAA. That player then tosses it to another senior from another rival school and so on and so fourth until the entire district is represented.
A symbol of softball solidarity, and a sign that sportsmanship on the field can help us tackle the biggest things in life off the field as well.
To Alyssa Costley and all the seniors in District 9-AAA, take your bow. This is your Curtain Call.
