Curtain Call: Greenfield Lady Yellowjackets

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The only thing that could stop the Greenfield Girls Basketball team this season was stopping the season itself.

The spread of COVID-19 and the ultimate cancelation of the TSSAA State Tournament ended a perfect 34-0 season in which the Lady Yellowjackets were ranked no. 1 in the state for the entire season, earning this Curtain Call.

Greenfield won the state championship in 2018, but with a loaded team returning the goal for this season was to go undefeated. The squad was led by two-time Miss Basketball Chloe Moore-McNeal and Tennessee recruit and Miss Basketball finalist Tess Darby.

Both Moore-McNeal and Darby had monster regular seasons and postseasons, leading Greenfield back to the state tournament in convincing fashion. Then the Lady Yellowjackets took out North Greene by a whopping 28 points in the quarterfinals in Murfreesboro to move just two wins away from reclaiming the state title.

That’s when the tournament was halted.

Greenfield won’t get the chance to cut down the nets, but its young ladies were never beaten in 34 games this season. That’s perfection deserving of a tip of the cap.
