Curtain Call: East Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — In this edition of our Curtain Call series, we intend to set the record straight that East Nashville was one of the best basketball teams in the state this year.

In fact, if it wasn't for Pearl-Cohn, people might be talking about the Eagles as the best team in the state.

Coach Avery Patton's squad went 24-1 against all teams not named Pearl-Cohn. They lost heartbreakers to the Firebirds in both the District and Regional title games.

But behind fabulous freshman Jaylen Jones, Willie Wilson, Corey Stewart and Josh Cole, East Nashville went on the road in sub-state and did what it had done all year – win.

The Eagles beat no. 4 Community by 14 in Unionville, using a 28-3 run to overcome an 11-point third quarter deficit. The victory punched their ticket to the state tournament, where -- who knows -- maybe a fifth meeting in the state championship game would've been the charm against Pearl-Cohn.

Even if not, there probably would've been some hardware for these Eagles because nobody else seemed to beat them.
