CLARKRANGE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Lamar Rogers lost his very first game as Clarkrange girls basketball coach at Cumberland County. In the 43 years he’s coached the Lady Buffaloes since that first game, Rogers has piled up more than 1,200 wins to become the state's all-time winningest coach.
Rogers broke the all-time wins record back in December with a win over Pickett County, and had another special team this season.
Clarkrange was 32-4 and had just beaten Huntingdon to open the program’s 25th trip to the state tournament when the TSSAA abruptly pulled the plug on the event due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19.
Sisters Kassie and Kaylie Monday led the way in that quarterfinal victory, combining for 40 points in the 80-36 win that appeared to put the Lady Buffaloes just two wins shy of a ninth state championship.
They weren’t allowed the chance to play for that state title, but the 2019-20 Lady Buffaloes lived up to the winning standard Rogers has built at Clarkrange for more than four decades. And that’s an accomplishment worthy of this Newschannel 5 Curtain Call.
