MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WTVF) — The Blackman Boys Basketball team missed the state tournament in 2019 and were determined to get back this year.
The Blaze punched their ticket to state in early March, but 2020 had other ideas. The spread of COVID-19 worldwide led to the TSSAA’s suspension of the state tournaments in Murfreesboro, abruptly ending the season for Blackman and other state bound boys’ basketball teams.
But the journey to get back to state is worth celebrating. The Blaze went 26-3 this season, beating a pair of ranked teams to reach the state tournament. Four players scored in double figures as they pulled away from Siegel for a 62-47 win to take the district 4-AAA title. Zoryn Harrington scored 14 points and T.J. Cross then chipped in 12 in a rout of Bradley Central in the Sectional that sent Blackman back to state for the seventh time in school history.
The run ended there with no chance to play for a state championship, but this Blackman team is still worthy of this Curtain Call.
