NASHVILLE, Tenn (WTVF) — As thousands of people in Tennessee remain out of work, recruiters say there are places hiring in Nashville.

Daniel Shomo, director of permanent placement services at Robert Half Finance & Accounting, is helping people look for permanent or temporary jobs during this COVID-19 environment.

"The March and April time-frame, a lot of companies are trying to figure out, what we do, how long is this going to go let’s wait it out," said Shomo.

But by May and June, he says things started to roll around. Staffing agents say the job market, at least in Nashville, started to pick back up during the pandemic.

Shomo says bars, restaurants and hotels have been hit the hardest. However, he says there are other opportunities available.

"It hit hotels really hard, it hit entertainment industry. There are so many jobs that are associated with live performances and all that. Those industries were really hit hard while other industries weren’t," said Shomo.

Shomo says there are several temporary jobs and some permanent ones available.

"It’s easy to be scared in this environment because there’s so much uncertainty, said Shomo, "Overall, we’re seeing an uptick in jobs and a lot of positions it’s still very difficult to find good talent right now."

He says places liked the medical field and real estate are looking for employees.

"Certain industries have actually thrived in this environment. Your distribution companies, a lot of manufacturing companies. people still need retail people still need products," said Shomo.

His advice for people looking for work is to reach out to a staffing agency first.
