NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — NewsChannel 5 is partnering with SHR Talent to bring you the resources you need to rebound in these tough times and land a job.
The site can be accessed by clicking here. It is free of charge and available to everyone.
So far, about a dozen companies have come on board, but the site goes beyond jobs. It is also offers free career advice for those trying to get back on their feet.
SHR Talent set up the website to help connect job seekers with companies they have already vetted.
“Some of these folks have come to us and said we got into talent acquisitions to help people. How can we help,” said Travis Guerra, manager of business development for SHR Talent.
Employers include YWCA, OneOncology, Vanderbilt University, Louisiana Pacific Corp., Tractor Supply Co., Postmates and Cracker Barrel.
The website works like a job fair, where you can virtually meet with employers and even get advice on how to interview without being in the same room.
Randy Valerio works as a recruiter for Cracker Barrel and says while it’s far more convenient, he understands the hesitation people have about doing virtual interviews.
“I try and calm their nerves by having them talk about themselves. I ask questions like walk me through yourself. What are your interests? What are your goals,” said Valerio.
It doesn’t take long for Valerio to know if he’s speaking to the right candidate for the job, but he says ultimately most jobs require people who are eager to please for the good of the company.
“We just want to make sure that the people we bring in, continue to be partners with everyone else. So they continue to have a good attitude, is primary. Then second, is can they do the job they said they can do,” said Valerio.
Job seekers can also set up free 30 minute career coaching sessions through the site, where you can talk with a local HR professional about what jobs best fit your skills and create a plan for your next career.
“A lot of people may have been let go from a job after 10 years and they haven’t even thought about updating their resumes since. They need feedback to prepare them on how to approach an interview,” said Guerra.
Career coaching is available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
If you’re a company willing to hire here locally, you can find a page on the site to enter your information.
One of our partners will contact you and add your name to the list.
