NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Vanderbilt University says positive cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the school's football program.

Vanderbilt confirmed the cases in a statement Friday morning, saying the university is following protocol and working on contact tracing.

As part of our ongoing testing procedures, we have been made aware of positive COVID-19 test results in our football program. We are following the university’s protocols and we are working closely with our Public Health Command Center and other health officials who are assessing potential close contacts and advising on additional steps. Because of applicable federal student privacy law, we are unable to publicly disclose personally identifiable information about any student who has tested positive for COVID-19.

The Vanderbilt Hustler first reported the positive cases Thursday, but it’s unclear how many players have tested positive.

Last month, the SEC announced it would limit this year's football season to only conference games, opting for a 10-game schedule this fall.
