NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — More than 20,000 unemployment claims were filed last week in Tennessee.

The Tennessee Department of Workforce Development released the latest numbers Thursday, saying 21,417 new claims were filed during the week ending on June 6.

The Department of Labor reported that nationwide, 1.5 million Americans filed initial claims for unemployment during the week ending June 6, bringing a three-month total to about 43 million.

Thursday's report marked the tenth straight week of declining unemployment numbers, as every state has begun the process of lifting coronavirus-related lockdowns.
