NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Unemployment is rising as the COVID-19 pandemic sends shockwaves through the economy, but a lot of industries are actually hiring right now. Here are some things to consider while you're job searching.
The career search site Monster reports they've seen an uptick in people looking for jobs in graphic design and software development -- both of which you can do from home.
Some other industries in demand are health care, as well as delivery and truck drivers. Experts say, when times are tough, get creative.
"I wouldn't sit this one out. I would keep your eye on the prize, stay focused, stay determined, interview, apply to jobs as soon as you see them online,” said Monster career expert Vicki Salemi.
Nationwide, the unemployment rate is almost 15%. In Tennessee, more than 500,000 people have filed for unemployment. The number is even higher in Kentucky with more than 750,000 claims, which equals more than a third of the commonwealth's workforce.
We know making ends meet right now is tough, which is why we want to help. NewsChannel 5 has partnered with SHR talent, a site that includes a list of employers and one-on-one career coaching.
