NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — This may make you think twice when your toe hits the water this summer. Before you jump in, a new report shows that Ameicans have some bad habits when it comes to using swimming pools.
The report, conducted online by Sachs Media Group, found that more than half of U.S. adults admitted to using swimming pools as a bathtub. Respondents said they would use swimming as a substitute for taking a shower. Examples included using a swimming pool after exercise or yard work.
3,100 people were surveyed for the study.
The research also found that 40% of Americans admit to peeing in the pool -- as an adult.
Ready to get even nastier? The same survey found that a quarter of Americans said they'd go into a pool within an hour of having diarrhea, something that you're not supposed to do.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns swimmers to stay out of pools if you've recently suffered from diarhea, because it can contaminate the pool with feces.
Experts also warn swimmers to always rise off before entering a pool.
