GALLATIN, Tenn. (WTVF) — Women in Sumner County are leaving thoughtful gifts on their neighbors' doorsteps.

Participants are in a group on Facebook called Sisterhood of the Traveling Spirits - Sumner County, Tennessee.

"You can't be on there to just receive," said Talena Spencer. "The point is to give."

Spencer created the group when she saw West Tennessee women involved in something similar.

More than 800 women in Sumner County are connected via the group. They are boxing up booze with other tokens for people who could use a pick-me-up.

"Just to change her direction on the thought of that day, to give her some sense of hope... that's what it is about," Spencer said.

Spencer and her family enjoy giving to other people. Her son, Jonathan, passed away in 2017. She said he is her inspiration to always look for new ways to make a difference.

"There is a reason that stuff happens to us and we don't know and we will probably never know why, but we know that those are lessons that help us and guide us," she said.

The gift boxes that she and others create are simple. Some contain candles, lotion or baked goods along with wine or another alcoholic beverage.
