MADISON, Tenn. (WTVF) — Metro police said a woman was found brutally murdered at a counseling center in Madison.

The woman was identified as 50-year-old Melissa 'Missy' Hamilton, of La Vergn, who was a counselor at Crossroads Counseling.

Her body was found with obvious trauma on Wednesday morning. Detectives believe the murder happened overnight. A medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

Metro police said Hamilton led a group counseling session at the center that ended at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night. Her husband called police after 6 a.m. Wednesday morning when she did not come home.

Detectives are looking into who may have been in the office after Tuesday night's meeting. They are looking at surveillance video from surrounding businesses for more information and following up with those in the group session.

It was not uncommon for her to conduct individual counseling following the group session. Counselors at Crossroads work in the field of domestic violence and alcohol and drug treatment.

Hamilton’s vehicle, a Ford Focus, was found parked near the front door of the business. The motive for the murder remains unknown. Police are asking anyone with information to come forward by calling 615-742-7463.
