NASHVILLE, Tenn. – While most people want to avoid getting into the back of a police vehicle, one woman has been accused of breaking into a marked cruiser and locking herself in the car.

Officials with Metro Police said Mashara Mefford broke into a squad car early Wednesday morning. The cruiser was parked at the Music City Center.

Officers arrived and found Mefford locked inside the car. When asked to get out, she ripped a tablet off its stand and tried to break out a window with it.

Police said she was screaming that she did not know how to open the door.

They were finally able to talk the woman out of the car and said she smelled strongly of alcohol, had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and was swaying back and forth.

Mefford was taken into custody and charged with vandalism and public intoxication.

She was booked on a $1,000 bond.
