NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Students in Robertson and Warren Counties will have their first day of the 2020-2021 school year Wednesday.
Both school districts have offered traditional, in-person learning and virtual learning. They are both also bringing students back to the classroom with a staggered approach based on their last names.
In Robertson County, masks are required at schools. In Warren County, masks are required on campus unless the person has a medical issue that exempts them from wearing one.
Editor's note: A previous version of this story said masks are encouraged but not required for either district. That has since been corrected.
In Warren County, students that have the last name beginning with A-L will report to school on Monday and Wednesday and students with the last name M-Z will report to school on Tuesday and Thursday.
In Robertson County, students whose last names beginning with A-G will begin Wednesday; last names begin with H-O begin Thursday and those with last names beginning with P-Z begin Friday. This week, students won't actually have class. Instead they'll go over all the safety protocols for when they do start on Wednesday, August 19.
Robertson County is also making a few dining changes to make sure cafeterias are safe. The district is offering grab-and-go options and breakfast and lunch can be eaten in classrooms. Outdoor areas may also be used to allow for social distancing.
