NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Family and friends gathered Monday night to remember 14-year-old Sayeed Neilson who police say was beaten to death by his stepbrother, David Matheny.
Neighbors held the vigil on Topeka Drive in Hermitage. A family member told NewsChannel 5 that Sayeed, who had Asperger syndrome, loved Star Wars, the family's dog, Halloween, school, and sharks.
Matheny and Sayeed's mother, 52-year-old Rebecca Greenwood were charged with criminal homicide, aggravated child abuse and evidence tampering. They have been ordered to be held without bond. Police say Greenwood saw the incident but did nothing to intervene.
