BENTON, Ky. (WTVF) — Nearly one year after a gunman opened fire inside a Kentucky high school – killing two students and wounding more than a dozen – a lawsuit has been filed by some of the victims' families.
Gabriel Parker, age 16, is accused of killing 15-year-olds Bailey Nicole Holt and Preston Ryan Cope at Marshall County High School back in January 2018.
More than a dozen students were injured.
On Tuesday, the families of four victims, including Holt's, filed a lawsuit against Parker, his family and school administrators.
Parker has been charged with two counts of murder and multiple counts of first-degree assault. He will be tried as an adult.
The lawsuit claims school administrators knew of Parker’s “dangerous propensities and failed to take any action to monitor, report, intervene, or prevent the actions of Defendant Parker, and further failed to comply with statutes and regulations related to school safety, which said actions and inactions resulted in the shooting of January 23, 2018.”
Wednesday marks one year since the shooting.
Marshall County is located about 90 miles northwest of Clarksville, and about 120 miles from Nashville.
