MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WTVF) — Vanderbilt's LifeFlight helicopter now has a new home at Murfreesboro Airport, according to a press release from Vanderbilt.

Based in Rutherford County since 2012, LifeFlight 5 will now sit in a space spanning 3,500 square feet in the airport's new TDK hangar. TDK - a contractor and developer specializing in apartment complexes - built the hangar on a land lease from Murfreesboro. TDK will also operated their corporate airlines from the hangar.

LifeFlight's section of the hangar has room for the helicopter, as well as a living space for the pilot and two crew members. The living space includes bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, mechanic workspace and storage areas.

"We love being part of the Rutherford County community, and being based at the Murfreesboro Airport," Kathy Nippers, base manager and chief flight nurse for the Murfreesboro base, said. "Our crews have been so excited about their new home. We appreciate the hard work everyone has done and look forward to continuing our great relationships with the community."

LifeFlight is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with pilots working 12-hour shifts and medical crews working either 12- or 24-hour shifts.
