The Donald J. Trump Foundation made 20 contributions to 11 other private foundations in the most recent 10 years for which tax records are publicly available. (Read about the Scripps News investigation) Here is a list of the foundations and the contributions:
- A $1,000 donation to the Sellecca-Tesh Foundation for the Forgotten Generation in 2005. Multiple attempts to reach the foundation were unsuccessful.
- A $5,000 gift to the Rena Rowan Foundation in 2005. Multiple calls to the foundation’s main number listed on its tax filings were not returned.
- A $100,000 grant in 2005 to the Rubin Museum of Art. The Rubin Museum of Art was never asked for and did not provide any documentation showing where it spent the donated money, said Robin Carol, the museum’s public relations and marketing manager. “The grant was for general operating support,” she said, and the museum properly reported the donation on its own IRS forms.
- Three separate gifts in 2006 totaling $25,000 to the Turn 2 Foundation Inc. Turn 2 is a public charity today but was a private foundation at the time of the donations. Multiple requests for comment sent to the foundation, which is retired New York Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter’s private foundation, were not returned.
- A $2,000 gift to the Ferguson Library Foundation in 2007. The foundation’s director of development said the contribution came as a part of an annual book drive. The director also said the organization does not have any records from that period to substantiate whether Trump’s foundation asked for an accounting of how the money was spent.
- Eight grants given to the New York Jets Foundation from 2007–2014. The contributions total $75,000. The New York Jets Foundation spokesperson declined to comment when asked if Trump’s foundation ever requested the required reports that would prove to the IRS how the money was used.
- A $107,500 grant in 2008 to The Gucci Foundation. Multiple attempts were made to contact The Gucci Foundation. A spokesperson for Gucci responded to initial phone calls with an email that said, “Let me know how I can help,” but did not respond to subsequent written questions or multiple attempts to follow up.
- A $10,000 donation in 2010 to the Somer Thompson Foundation. The foundation did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
- A $1,000 gift to the Art For Life Foundation in 2011. The foundation said The Donald J. Trump Foundation placed no restrictions of any kind on how the money should be used. The Art For Life Foundation said it has not been contacted by Trump’s foundation since it made the donation, which was a “one time donation generated by a local fundraising event held by the New York artist: Martin Kammler in Trump Tower.”
- A $158,000 grant in 2012 to The Martin B. Greenberg Foundation. The foundation did not respond to messages.
- A $4,000 grant in 2014 to the private foundation of Mariano Rivera. A spokesperson for Rivera’s foundation said Trump’s donation came at a silent auction, which she said benefited a charity. The spokesperson declined to say whether Trump’s foundation requested detailed reports indicating where the money was spent.
