MURFREESBORO, Tenn (WTVF) — As we enter the seventh month of the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are still out of work and running out of hope.

But there are also people stepping in to lend a helping hand. A Murfreesboro woman hopes to help those in need by inviting them to her table with the creation of The Thursday Table.

On Thursday, Allie Becker had all the essentials and more laid out on her Murfreesboro front lawn. The items ranged from children's books to fresh fruit.

COVID-19 has canceled events, jobs and more but Becker says it hasn’t canceled kindness.

"If we can help others and we can because we needed help in the past we just want to that," said Becker.

She’s giving the many items away for free to anyone in need. Becker says the idea for Thursday Table started a few months ago when she was inspired by someone doing the exact same thing in California for victims of the pandemic.

"It’s just so easy to get overwhelmed with the bad news and I saw this and I thought this is something I can do," she explained.

Through her Facebook page and her Amazon wishlist, friends and strangers donate items, and every Thursday starting around eight o'clock in the morning she sets up her table for anyone to come by and grab what they need.

"I just wanted to do something and even though it seemed kind of small I knew that it could make an impact with the people around me."

Becker says the response so far has been incredible. And she's hoping she can inspire someone else to help out during these desperate times.

"When you see something like this even though it might seem small or simple, know that it’s making a difference in someone else’s life," Becker said.

The typical hours on Thursday's are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
