NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Thursday is the last day to early vote in Tennessee in the presidential election. Early voting sites across Tennessee will be open and election officials are expecting a large turnout of voters.

Tennesseans have already broken the early voting turnout record, surpassing the early voting total from the 2016 presidential election.

Davidson County Election Administrator Jeff Roberts said he estimates Davidson County has had more than 185,000 early voters already. He believes Thursday could bring in tens of thousands more voters.

As of Wednesday, 30,000 people have also returned absentee ballots to the election commission - four times more than 2016.

Hurrican Zeta is bringing rain to the mid-state for most of the day; so voters will want to make sure they have an umbrella as they will likely be waiting outside.

Even with the record numbers and precautions taken due to COVID-19, Roberts said things are going smoothly.

"The voters have really worked with us, recognizing that COVID has tossed some wrenches at us to make sure that we create a safe environment. But the voters, we haven't had a lot of complaints about I haven't had to stand in line because they recognize it's a little bit different than they've had in the past," said Roberts.

Voters must have an ID in order to cast a ballot.
