Voters across Tennessee will head to the polls to vote in the Super Tuesday Presidential Primary election.
On Monday, precinct officers set up voting machines, signs and sample ballots at the Charlotte Park Elementary School in West Nashville. The school is one of 160 voting locations across Davidson County. Over 1600 trained poll workers will staff voting locations throughout the county. Davidson County officials said that is the most ever due to the expected large turnout
“We are expecting a pretty good turnout,” said Nancy DeKalb, spokesperson for the Davidson County Election Commission. “There has been a lot of buzz about the primary and a lot of people are excited about the candidates and the fact they will have a voice in the outcome.”
DeKalb said long lines are possible at the polls and voters are asked to be patient. She added that peak voting times are normally early morning, noon, and 5 p.m.
The Tennessee Division of Elections reports 385,653 voters cast their ballots early, and as many as one million or more voters could show up at the polls Tuesday.
Secretary of State Tre Hargett said voters need to be prepared before they vote.
“Try and be flexible if you can,” said Hargett. “Be a prepared and educated voter. Go ahead and review the ballot so you know who you are going to vote for beforehand.”
Voters need to bring valid photo identification to the polls.
