Tennessee to hold special election for state Senate seat

Posted

Tennessee will hold a special election to replace a former Republican state senator who was recently sworn in as a federal judge.

A news release by Gov. Bill Haslam's office says the special primary election to replace Mark Norris in Senate District 32 will take place on Jan. 24, with early voting to begin Jan. 4. The general election will follow on March 12, with early voting to start Feb. 20.

Norris was sworn in earlier this month as a judge in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee. President Donald Trump nominated the Collierville Republican to the federal bench in July 2017. He was confirmed on Oct. 11.

Norris' old district includes Tipton County and part of Shelby County.
