ATLANTA, Ga. (WTVF) — A Carter County man has been arrested in Georgia and is charged with the murder of his mother.

Investigators began looking into the death of 71-year-old Edith Ralph when they were called to her home on Reynolds Road when a caretaker found her body inside.

Agents were able to determine throughout their investigation that Ralph's son, John Christopher Ralph, 51, of Elizabethton, who also resided at the residence, was responsible for her death.

Ralph was detained and arrested on Saturday night at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

He is charged with first degree murder and is being held in the Clay County Jail (GA) on a $1 million bond.

He is currently waiting extradition to Tennessee.
