NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Tennessee death row inmate Nick Sutton has chosen the electric chair as his execution method.
Sutton was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his grandmother in 1979, when he was 18 years old. He was later sentenced to death for killing another inmate while at the Morgan County Regional Correctional Facility in 1985.
Last week, attorneys for Sutton argued he should be spared for execution because he has transformed his life while in prison. His attorney sent a petition to Governor Bill Lee, saying Sutton saved the lives of numerous prison employees and fellow inmates.
Sutton is scheduled to be executed on February 20.
