Suspect in Officer Spencer Bristol's death pleads guilty to evading arrest charge

HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The suspect accused in the death of Hendersonville Police Officer Spencer Bristol pleaded guilty to charges during a pre-trial conference Friday.

Emani Martin Jr., 19, pleaded guilty to an evading arrest charge, a Class D felony, which carries two to four years. All other charges against him in Sumner County were dropped.

Officer Spencer was hit and killed on Interstate 65 South in December of last year. Martin Jr. - a passenger in a vehicle being chased by Bristol - bailed from the car and ran across the interstate. Bristol was hit and killed while chasing after him.

Martin Jr's sentencing hearing was set for November 20 at 1 p.m. Spencer Bristol's widow is expected to testify at the hearing.
