NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — From their very first store in North Nashville opening in 2017 to now opening on Broadway. Slim & Husky’s team is excited to open their restaurant located at the Fifth Avenue and Broadway development in downtown Nashville.

Doors open on March 4.

Growing up in Nashville, the founders of Slim & Husky's are childhood friends and Tennessee State University grads.

They know not every day a person can say they own a business on Broadway, let alone as Black entrepreneurs.

"To be here right by Bridgestone Arena and right behind the African American Museum of Music," said co-founder Clint Gray.

"It's big," said co-founder Derrick Moore. "Being from Nashville, born and raised, to see representation of Black folks on Broadway is a big deal."

The idea behind Slim and Husky's was to create a space that brought together their love for pizza, music and art. It's a way strangers can come together and leave as friends.

"We wanted to transition into something that could benefit the community and be within our neighborhood," said Gray. "We wanted to offer good food and a great experience as well as bring people together at a table to have conversations."

Moore says he understands what this restaurant represents for other Black folks in the community.

"We infused some hope or added to it for people in our community in jobs and just a privilege to be in this position," said Moore.

It's why they're not slowing down anytime soon. The expansion doesn't end on Broadway. Slim & Husky's is also opening a new location in Murfreesboro and another pizzeria is planned for Nashville airport.
