NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The timeline to pick a permanent director to lead Metro Schools is becoming more clear as discussion continues.
School leaders met at a retreat Friday to talk about the process of hiring their next director of schools, a position held for the time being by Adrienne Battle.
Members debated whether to start the search before or after new board members are elected in August, but didn't come to a consensus.
School Board Chair Anna Shepherd says for the past two superintendents, Metro Schools has used a national firm to help find their next schools director. Shepherd says she'd like to see the board work with the Tennessee School Board Association -- a group that usually works with rural school districts, but can also encourage in-state candidates to apply for the top job.
She says the board decided to hold off on planning details of the schools director search until their next retreat in January of next year.
