PORTLAND, Tenn. (WTVF) — Authorities say they’re still investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of a woman and toddler inside a Portland home.

The Sumner County Sheriff’s Office identified the woman and child as 32-year-old Tiffany Spears and 15-month-old Nicholas Crowder.

Investigators said the preliminary results from the medical examiner did not reveal any “apparent” causes of death, and they are awaiting further testing, which could take several weeks. The sheriff’s office said detectives did locate evidence which may “indicate that drugs could be a contributing factor.”

Smokey Barn News reported that a probation officer was conducting a home visit in the 700 block of Butler Road on Tuesday when he found a woman and baby dead inside. Smokey Barn reported that a 3-year-old, who was also in the home, was taken to an area hospital to be treated.

Investigators said they’re still piecing together the timeline of events to determine when the last-known contact was with Spears. Anyone with information should contact Det. Lance Hampton at 615-442-1849.
