NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Protesters at the People’s Plaza have been making their call for change for several days, But Thursday they took that call to the Davidson county jail.

They dubbed their protest “A March to Free LJ,” for a protestor who they say has been behind bars since Friday.

But the larger message was to push back against bail for pre-trial detentions —something they say inordinately impacts those with lower income and communities of color.

“It makes it a system where only rich people are able to get themselves out and so it continues to keep people in poverty, said Jonelle Christopher, a March organizer. “So I wish there was a system where people were rehabilitated and they didn’t have the stresses of having the money to get out of the system that’s not rehabilitating them.”

After marching to the jail, the group returned back to the steps of Legislative Plaza.
