A well-known gun show in the middle of a legal battle with Metro Nashville, is planning several shows in Wilson County.

Bill Goodman’s Gun and Knife Show will be at the Wilson County Exposition Center Saturday and Sunday. It will be the second of six shows scheduled in Lebanon.

“The first one went very well. We had a good turnout of local folks and from surrounding counties.” said Zendel Murphy, General Manager at the Wilson County Expo Center.

The company said in a news release the show brings vendors from all over the state to display hunting equipment, police gear, handguns, ammunition and knives.

“We are excited to add the Wilson County Expo Center to our venue list”, said company spokesman David Goodman.

The show was previously held at the Nashville Fairgrounds for more than 30 years until the Metro Fair Board voted to halt future gun shows in December of 2015.  Board members cited safety concerns. However, Goodman said in a news release, the show promotes the safe and legal sale of firearms for collectors, traders and outdoor enthusiasts.

Goodman said in a statement:

“At the moment we are challenging the ban on gun shows by Nashville Metro Fair Board at the Appeals Court level. We are confident that we will get a favorable decision soon and will return to the Fairgrounds in the near future.”

The $12 million, 76,600 square foot expo center opened in Wilson County in November of 2016. It has hosted event ranging from conventions to antiques and car shows. Officials said the addition of the gun show could bring extra visitors and money to the county.

“Most everyone is familiar with Bill Goodman,” said Murphy. “I think if you are in the market for something of that effect, this is a venue that could be utilized for that.”
