Police Respond To At Least 6 Shootings In Less Than 24 Hours

Officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department responded to at least six unrelated shootings in less than 24 hours.

The first happened around 10:30 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of Joseph Avenue at the Riverchase Apartments.

Officials said the 50-year-old female victim told them she was standing in her doorway when a man in a dark car started firing a gun, hitting her in her hand.

Police said the suspect fled down an alley toward Meridian Street. The victim was expected to be okay.

Around 12:15 a.m. Saturday, officials were called to an apartment in the 2100 block of Waterford Circle about an accidental shooting.

Reports stated a man in his 20s said he accidentally shot himself one time in the thigh with a pistol. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with serious injuries.

Police said at 1 a.m. Saturday, they responded to a shots fired call in the 1300 block of Bellshire Terrace.
At the scene, authorities found the victim face down with a gunshot wound to his leg.

His face was also injured, possibly from being assaulted. He was taken to Skyline Medical Center.

According to reports, a possible suspect had been locate, and the investigation continued.

Just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday, a group of young male suspects approached another group and began shooting.

Police said the group of victims had been hanging out behind the Dunkin Donuts near 21st Avenue South when the shooting took place.

One victim, a 20-year-old man, was hit in the neck. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The motive in the shooting was unknown as the investigation remained ongoing.

Saturday, around 5 p.m., officials said a juvenile showed up at the hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his leg.

The 16-year-old reportedly found a gun at a park, and it accidentally discharged when he was handling it. The exact location was not specified.

Later, around 7 p.m. Saturday, an 18-year-old was shot, and the suspect also allegedly took his backpack.

The teen said he was walking on Dew Street near 11th Avenue after leaving a nearby Shell station. An unknown vehicle pulled up, and he was shot. According to the victim, that's when his backpack was taken.

His injury was non-life threatening. The motive for the shooting was unknown.

Detectives said they're continuing to investigate the crime.
