Police: Man charged in deadly crash was driving 90 mph in 45 mph zone

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A Nashville man has been arrested in connection with a deadly 2018 crash.

Police said 40-year-old Joseph E. Matthews was taken into custody Tuesday morning after a grand jury indicted him on a vehicular homicide charge.

The two-car crash happened when 37-year-old Brandon Mills was trying to turn left from Charlotte Pike onto I-40 east. His vehicle was struck by Matthews’ Dodge Challenger, which was travelling west on Charlotte Pike.

Mills died at the scene. Matthews was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

At the time of the crash, police said Matthews was traveling more than 90 mph in a 45-mph zone.

His bond is set at $50,000.
