NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A candlelight vigil will be held at Bellevue Middle School tonight in honor of a staff member who was murdered early Saturday morning.

His name was Ernie Aguilar and friends and family posted on Facebook what he meant to them and questioned why this happened.

People said in their posts he was a talented musician playing for a number of bands. He was a dear friend to many, had a big heart, and loved and cared about everyone in his life.

Bellevue Middle School PTO called him a beloved staff member who was a joyful and helpful member of the community. They are hosting a vigil next to the school's football field at 7 p.m. and all are welcome.

Metro Detectives said Aguilar was 60 years old. Officers responded to the Slate apartments off Highway 70 South by Bellevue Road Saturday after a person saw someone lying outside of their apartment at 7:15 a.m.

Investigators were able to look at surveillance video and see him returning home from work around 1:30 a.m. He was unloading his car when it appeared he noticed something off-camera and walked over to the area where he was shot and killed.

Officers were in the area earlier, just after 2 a.m. for reports of shots fired, but did not come across a crime scene or victim at the time.

Anyone with information about Aguilar's murder is asked to call Nashville Crime Stoppers. You can be anonymous and if your info leads to an arrest you could qualify for a 5 thousand dollar reward.
