COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Cookeville Police are investigating the deaths of a mother and son as a murder-suicide.
Around 3:30 p.m. Monday, maintenance personnel at the Willow Park Apartment Complex called the Cookeville Police Department to report two unresponsive persons lying in the floor of an apartment.
Officers responded and found 52-year-old Penelope Knowles and her 18-year-old son Keller both deceased. Police said both had been shot with a small-caliber firearm, which was found near Penelope Knowles' body.
Knowles had recently purchased the gun, according to police.
Investigators said they believe Penelope Knowles shot her son and then took her own life. The motive for the shootings remained under investigation.
