BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (WTVF) — Many women can relate to a photo that's gaining plenty of attention online of what it means to be a working mother in the modern age.
Melody Blackwell had baby Nora-Jo five months ago. After a three month maternity leave, her boss and the owner of Maryland Farms Chiropractic in Brentwood, Dr. Elizabeth Baker, has allowed her to bring her newborn to work with her every Monday. For the rest of the week, Melody works from home. The picture has gone viral on facebook and Melody says she thinks its because it speaks to the reality of being a working mom.
"I think a lot of people are in that same boat," said Melody Blackwell, chiropractic assistant. "They're trying to make it work and there are a lot more working moms now."
The photo has been shared more than 500 times. Melody encourages other businesses to allow this more often.
"It makes a huge difference financially because daycare is really expensive," said Blackwell. "It's nice to be able to take out that cost and take home more of my check."
Dr. Baker explains it also allows mom and baby a chance to bond.
