CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Efforts to let voters decide the future of a multi-million dollar event center in downtown Clarksville fell short.

The group, "Residents for Effective Government," was not able to collect the number of signatures required by this afternoon's deadline to put the issue on the ballot.

The Montgomery County Commission approved funding for the project in November.

The 270,000-square foot Multi-Purpose Event Center or "MPEC" will feature two ice rinks, and space for concerts and special events.
