NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — An 82-year-old house on Fisk University's campus is likely going to be torn down soon unless a group of petitioners can stop it.

The Boyd House, which sits on Fisk's campus, belonged to Dr. Henry Allen Boyd and Georgia Bradford Boyd. Both were active in Nashville, where he served as president of Citizen's Bank and later as a Fisk Trustee, and she fought for gender and racial equality.

Metro Council Member Freddie O'Connell said the city talked with their family a few years ago about restoring the home but didn't reach an agreement. O'Connell says he's going to talk to the university this week to see if there's time to raise funds from private donors.

The house is exhibiting disrepair and the Metro Historical Commission has had it on their radar. It’s right across the street from a building that made last year's short list of historic properties endangered by demolition, neglect or development.
