An investigation got underway overnight after a pedestrian was struck and killed on Interstate 40 near downtown Nashville.
The incident happened at 1:50 a.m. Monday in eastbound lanes near the I-65 loop.
Officials with Metro Nashville Police said the victim was identified as 43-year-old Scott Brumbaugh, of Cumberland Furnace, Tennessee.
Police said the driver, 23-year-old Cole Brenkman, was entering I-40 from I-65 when Brumbaugh was struck.
Brenkman said he did not see the victim. Bumbaugh died at the scene.
At this time, it's unclear why he was in the roadway. Police said he had reportedly been at a concert Sunday night in Nashville.
A blood sample would determine whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
The interstate was closed for two hours while investigators remained on scene.
