Pedestrian Hit, Killed By Semi-Truck

Posted

A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a commercial semi-truck in La Vergne.

Officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said 58-year-old William J. Hayes III of Millersville was killed while working on a disabled semi-truck.

La Vergne Police said they assisted in the investigation Monday afternoon, but called in THP investigators to take the lead because of the severity of the case.

According a preliminary report, Timothy Crosson was driving a truck that Hayes owned.

Hayes was following Crosson in another vehicle, but got out to work on the truck when it became disabled at the intersection of Waldron Road and Charter Place.

Crosson did not see that Hayes was attempting to work on the truck and hit him while trying to make a right hand turn.

Hayes died from his injuries. It was unclear if charges would be made in the case.
