HERMITAGE, Tenn. (WTVF) — One person was killed in a shooting in Hermitage Friday night. Metro police are investigating a claim of self defense in the shooting.

Metro Nashville Police officials say it happened at 4331 Old Hickory Boulevard around 9:20 p.m. in the parking lot of Urban Air.

When officers arrived at the scene a 23-year-old admitted to shooting the victim, 20-year-old Timothy Wilks.

Detectives were told Wilks and a friend were taking part in a prank robbery as part of a YouTube video and approached a group of people - including the shooter - with butcher knives.

The shooter told detectives he was unaware of the prank and shot Wilks in defense of himself and the others in the group.

Newschannel5 legal analyst Nick Leonardo says this isn't the first when a prank has gone wrong.

This incident leaves us with this question - is the shooting justified?

"What is pivotal here is a district attorney is going to have to determine if a crime has been committed," Leonardo said, "it is legal to use deadly force to protect yourself or a third party from serious bodily injury or imminent death so it's very important that they consider that..."

No charges have been placed at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
