Woman killed in Centerville shooting; suspect in custody

CENTERVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was called to Centerville Tuesday night after a shooting that killed one woman and injured her husband.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. at a home in the 1300 block of Highway 100, near the Homestead Restaurant. When law enforcement arrived, 53-year-old Lucy Brewer was found dead in the home. Her husband also suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital in Nashville for treatment.

Hickman County Sheriff Randall Ward confirmed authorities took a man, identified as 61-year-old Gary Tidwell, into custody overnight. He was found hiding in the woods off of Missionary Road in Centerville around 4 a.m.

Tidwell has been questioned by the TBI. The sheriff indicated that the suspect posted details online about harming one of the victims. He is now facing charges of criminal homicide, attempted criminal homicide and felon in possession of a firearm. He was booked into the Hickman County Jail without bond.
