NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — A shooting between two stepbrothers in East Nashville leaves one of them dead and the other in the hospital.

Metro police say the shooting seems to have happened randomly Tuesday morning on Burns Street because the two brothers had not seen one another in three years. There were no known issues between the two.

Police say 38-year-old Carson Denny showed up to the home and shot his younger stepbrother, 27-year-old Chandler Barnes, multiple times. Detectives say Denny then left the home, but then came back and shot Barnes again when he saw Barnes' fiancé, who saw the whole thing, attempting to get Barnes to the hospital.

We're told Denny then turned the gun on himself. Barnes was taken to Skyline Medical Center where he's
expected to be ok.

Investigators are still working to find the motive.

Unique, affordable housing opening soon for youth aging out of foster care

Journalism is at its best when we can shine a light on an issue that needs more attention. Once again, Hannah McDonald does this beautifully by highlighting the hardships of teens aging out of the foster care system. I learned something new in her reporting and am inspired by the work I AM NEXT is doing to make a difference. I think you will be too!
